Anime Icons (56k{1-28-96}) Here are some icons of DP, KOR, AMG, Tenchi, Ranma and A-ko as ICO files. Zipped. Works for Win95.
It is tough not to make some of the reviews kinda gushy but I really like the genre. The reviews contain certain shorthand as it could be repeated through each review.
Rec: is for recommendations, in a multi part series there are some episode that stand out more then others. If you are starting out it will give you a place to start.
Art: covers the quality of the artwork, as you can tell from the graphic intensity of the pages here lies a deep passion.
BG: Is the bad question, some one has to ask it and it is my job.
HN: Henti Note for all you perves out there.
NN: Nerd note covers the things that nerds need to remember before returning close to reality.
For the nubies, here is my recommended starter twelve pack, in no particular order. I didn't include Sailor Moon or Starblasers as you need to see the whole series to really enjoy one episode. So here goes.
- Project A-ko: Pure fun, with some weirdness thrown in, as the rest of the site explains.
- B-gum Crisis: #6 Red Eyes, gripping and well done. Some of the best Sci-fi ever done.
- Akira: A lot of negs but it was the first and it is a classic. This must be seen to put the rest of Anime in perspective.
- Ranma 1/2: TV#1, Stands alone as one hysterical episode, I find myself coming back to it all the time.
- Tenchi Muyo: Tenchi in Love, the movie sums up the series in such an excellent way. This film stands out above it all.
- Ghost in the Shell: Odd and entrancing, A has to de seen to be believed.
- El Hazzard: #3 Worth viewing on it's own.
- Marcross Plus: The Movie, A definite must have.
- Patlabor: #1 I have go with this as it is the first but I like #2 better.
- Urusei Yatsara: Movie #2 Beautiful Dreamer. Surrealistic.
- Kimagure Orange Road: #5 Different, with out the usual warm fuzzy.
- Oh My Goddess!: #5 Sums up all that the series is about.
Pai's Page! - A 3x3 Eyes Homepage Haunting and interesting, well worth checking it out. Can sometimes be very strange but has a very nice plot and good characterizations.
Art: Good but not spectacular.
NN: When you're dead your dead.
Adventure Kid: Another avoid like plague video, well there is a kid and some adventure, but that is about it. You seen one tentacle rape scene, you have seen them all. The plot, what little of it is there, shuts down for the sex scenes. What a waste.
Art: Who cares????
BQ: Why???
HN: Too stupid to be exciting.
NN: Contains a ton of immoral and illegal behavior. Rent a porn flick instead, go with the live action.
The Relief Goddess Office Homepage : Cute but primo characters and very good story. A shy guy, well she is a goddess by the way, trying to make time with a goddess that would do any thing for him. Will Urd inject some ball into him so that he will make a pass at her. Hopefully there is another series soon. The manga is great and well worth checking out. Other sites
Belldandy's Shrine and Follower This guy needs to get laid big time. If any woman does it with him, her place in heaven is assured [ This is a public service announcement.].
Skuld Shrine Scary what you could do with unlimited disk space. This boy has no life and the site to prove it.
The Urd Shrine Sweet and innocent, NO! Urd is the type of woman that would straighten out you ass pronto.
Art: Nice really something worth looking at.
NN: You can only cold call hookers.
AKIRA Homepage This is the oddest and most intense of the bunch. Weird and wonderful, very good. It is a classic, more by subject and primacy.
Art: Disturbing.
Rec: One of the must sees.
Angle Cop: Strong language, strong violence, and weak plot. Terrorists, give me a break!!!! This one is a real looser.
The Appleseed Home Page: O.K. story, nice art, fine overall. Not really spectacular but nice.
Art: O.K..
Ariel: This is low rent and a waste of time just watching it. Pathetic plot and crappy characters make this a bad experience.
Art: Sad.
Battle Skipper: Another cheep excuse to sell toys and it starts with a comerical. Leave it.
Bubble Gum Crisis Great adventure and probably one of the best series in Anime. A true classic of cyberpunk. Primo rock and excellent stories. Nene has her own shrine at
Nene Romanova Shrine.
Art: O.K. to so-so.
Rec.: Crisis EP 5,6 are some of the best Sci-fi ever produced.
Golden Boy: The same plot is in all the volumes. Kintaro Oe meets a babe, does a meninal job for her and leaves. After she wants him big time. This is great but beware of the toliet jokes. The main bitch is the use of mozac on the naughty bits.
HONEY FLASH!!! Cutey Honey Image Shrine: A true place of hentism. Of course it is necessary to the plot that she jump into the air and all of her cloths disappear. New ones do appear, eventually.
Art: Good
HN: Tits
Devil Hunter Yohko: This wierded even me out. Strange, funny and well?? it can't be described. It contains sex, violence, nudity and strange sense of humor. All the things one always needs, I love it. Prepare to be stunned occasionally.
Art: First rate.
NN: Yea this happens in real life.
Dirty Pair...uh...Lovely Angels This series changes from episode to episode. Affair on Nolandia actually took itself serious and the other two don't. This splits most of the fans and AoN is considered a bad dog to be ignored or kicked about. The strange thing is that I actually like it. This is replaced by DP Flash, which is a more glittizer version.
Art: Fine but not spectacular.
Rec.: Project Eden.
Dominion Tank Police HQ Gotta love the Pumas. A girl's love for her tank. The first series is more twisted than the second series and has some serious 'tude and is definitely strange. It all works out to be very enjoyable.
Art: Gothic in the first and lighter in the second.
Rec.: Gotta go with the first series but the second is not bad.
El Hazard When it first appeared the buzz was so low. Funny provocative and addictive, it became my most watched Anime. The score is excellent and adds greatly to the vid. One of the best series out there.
Art: Gorgeous.
The Girl from Phantasia: The question here is this a low-grade rip-off of Lum or OMG. Not worth the price of Admission, it is just a nothing.
Art: Nondescript
Ghost in the Shell: I could see why some reviewers did not get it. In the best movie review, I saw the line that fits is. "Assumes an education level higher that most Americans." Some times rambley discussion of the difference between man and machine. It is an instant classic.
Art: Jaw dropping unbelievable.
NN: No you can't build one of these at home.
Gunsmith Cats: High recommendations for the manga and the vid. Action and adventure with the manga getting really racy (nothing to do with speed, geek). In the continuation of the manga from Japan, May engages in a little autoeroticism ( no it has nothing to do with a car ) so I can see that they would not be too hot on putting that one out.
Art: Nice.
NN: Get laid before you can understand some of this.
Guyver: This is another highly addictive series. When I first saw it I was hooked. The first series (1-6) is better than series two (7-12), but there are both worth it. The odd thing is that Manga is re-releasing it as single (30 min ) tapes whereas they were released before as sets with two episodes each. Everything is the same except for the opening and closing theme music and covering the kanji credits. There are two live action movies out there, Guyver I and II. The first has Mark Hammel ( is this guy everywhere ) and good production values. Guyver II has all the production values of old Ultraman or Ed Wood film. This will be on the sci-fi channel forever. The manga follows the vids and is pretty good. Oh yea a lot of body parts fly in these vids.
Art: Not bad to OK
Rec: First series.
Iria: An engaging plot of a female bounty hunter trying to kill the unkillable. Carrying the Arabian theme of El-Hazzard the story stretches over numerous worlds until it expected showdown.
Art: First Rate.
The Capricious KOR Home Page You are left with the feeling that there is more here than released, as plot holes bounce up all over the place. It starts off focusing on the Psi powers but heads off as a relationship vid. Either way you can't loose. The ending goes for reality and not the warm fuzzy that we are all used to. The new movie is great and almost made my twelve pack.
Art: Fine.
Rec: Last chapter.
Lupin III FAQ - HTML Version: Here is complete non-stop action. The Wolf bounces from one adventure to another and is rumored to be part of the inspiration for Indiana Jones. Always interesting, leaping from one escape to another.
Art: Depends.
Macross Plus Unofficial WWW site: Captivating, this was rated one of the top ten video releases of last year and for good reason. The art is gorgeous and the plot is complex and interesting. As all marcross it ends at the mecha but the trip is well worth it. This is a must see. The soundtrack is a must get.
Art: Unbelievable.
Rec.: This is the best Macross.
Moldiver: What happens when you invent something really neat. Your sister steals it. The power of the mole unit Miri becomes a super hero as if this was unexpected. Played for laughs this series is a lot of fun. Not a great one but amusing.
Art: Not bad to pretty good.
NN: Yes the opening shot up her skirt was vital to the plot.
Neon Genesis Evangelion Home Page Believe the buzz, this is a landmark series that has me shelling out the bucks every two months. Absolutely the finest. The typical "Let's save the planet" plot and infused with depth, wit and charm. The ending is brillant and I can see where most want an ending battle. It is stunning deep and thoughtful. LOVE IT
Art: High standard.
Rec: Any and all.
Ninja Scroll: Sex, drugs and rocks that roll. Not many survivors but one hell of a story.
Art: Stylized but an impact.
Super Catgirl Nuku Nuku: Charming is the best word for it, so what do you expect when a cat's brain is placed in an android. Sometimes goofy and all the time funny, even after repeat viewing.
Art: Good not great but good.
Rec.: Ep. 5 of vol. 3 the restaurant scene is unbelievable.
Orguss 02: Primo art and inspiration from "Things to Come" heavy on plot and sub plot but really cool.
Art: Above Average.
Outlanders Unlimited! Heads roll, arms roll, sword-fu, chimp-fu, horn-fu, breasts, beasts, sex, beast sex, 2 buckets of blood, 2 1/2 stars Droid-bob says check it out.
Art: OK.
NN: Remember she would slice you in half.
The Complete Mobile Police Patlabor Guide Ok, so I really hate the use of terrorists as the villains as the have come to replace nazi's. Against that I still loved it. Tense, gripping and well developed, makes this interesting.
Art: First class.
Plastic Little - Homepage The adventures of the aptly (amply?) named Tita. Don't these girls ever ware a bra. An inane plot that is ridiculous when you actually think about it. Except for the parts where the girls have to get their ribs wrapped and expose breast. It is mild diversion but basically a tit movie.
Art: Not actually bad.
HN: Yea they show them.
NN: Ones that look like these are few and far between in real life.
BQ: Is sag going to catch up with them?
The Ranma 1/2 Just add water. Dare I say it, a classic in every sense of the word. Slapstick, stupidity and sexual innuendo, waved together into the best stories and characterization seen. So absolutely wild and off the wall that it pales anything on 'merrican tube. The only bad thing is that it is so highly addictive. There is some Real Audio of Ranma at
Mimsy's Homepage.
Art: Variable, most of it is excellent with the OVA's getting too stylized and losing it.
BQ: Power lines?????????
HN: A lot of Ranma-chan nudity but isn't he a guy who becomes a girl and if you get off on his girl side does that make you gay????
Ref: Anything with Shampoo and/or Royga.
One Of The typical Sailor Moon Web Pages: OK face it, I have the hots for Lita, so what if she is a toon, maybe it could work out. So how does an excuse to market toys to girls become such good Anime. Strong characterizations and involved episodal plot and before you know it, hooked. The author was disappointed that they removed the nudity and the sexual innuendo's, well so am I.
Art: Gets better as the series progresses.
HN: Legs... boy is that desperate.
The Slayers: This series is funny and does not take itself so serious. Lina Inverse leads you through a world of wisecracks and sorcery that is nothing like the standard routine. This is an adventure satire and it works ( unlike this sentence ).
Art: Almost low grade.
NN: Don't ask about that time of the month.
Tenchi Muyo (No Need for Tenchi) Beware this site takes a while to download. Absolutely engrossing, the characters and the plot pull you in. So engrossing, I watched my friend go to the end of her seat during the sixth episode. She also wishes death on Mihoshi.
Art: One of the finest.
Ref: Episodes 1 to 6.
Ultra 7: The dub of this is one of the insane things ever produced. When we watched we tried to figure when the Molson kicked in on the writers as it has some of the funniest lines. A classic in the vein of "What's Up Tiger Lilly", this is one of those has to be seen to be believed. It pissed off the purist's big time.
Urusei Yatsura: The TV series left me cold and only when reading the manga did an appreciation develop. The manga is funny, inventive and high amusement. The movies on the other hand are surreal and beautiful, like a fine wine to be enjoyed. The dub of the TV series should be avoided at all costs.
Art: The movies are outstanding.
Rec: Beautiful Dreamer
Video Girl Ai This is a great Manga and you can get the translations at
The Ai-chan Manga Database. Hope this will soon be on Vid here.
